2016 Showcase jurors
Charles Ray, Sam D'Ambruoso, and Dorothy Peebles-Pelley have been selected as jurors for Oxford’s 7th annual major juried OCAC Showcase Exhibit which is scheduled for the weekend of May 20th, 21st and 22nd. The Showcase Exhibit will be in the Meeting room at Oxford Town Hall with a Gala Opening and special activities during the annual Oxford’s FACE (Festival of Arts, Culture and Entertainment) weekend to take place at Oxford Town Hall 486 Oxford Road, Oxford, CT 06478, the surrounding area and at the Oxford Grange #194.
The Showcase is a unique art show with works in a wide variety of media and all styles of art from traditional, realistic to the unique and eclectic. Open to all media including painting, drawing, fiber art, photography and sculpture, the art is not segregated for jurors into media categories - the focus of the show is to choose art for creativity, esthetic impact and strength of image as art regardless of media used.
Charles Ray is a graduate of the Hartford Art School and studied at the Yale School of Art. He was the director at Silvermine School of the arts in New Canaan starting in 1993 until he retired. Charles taught painting and drawing there for many years and he is a Silvermine Guild Artists member. Charles is currently teaching at the Rowayton to Art Center and also has private students
He currently focuses on painting landscapes on-site in the Northeast.
In his studio his work has been more of figurative and still live subjects.
Sam D'Ambruoso has been painting landscapes and portraits professionally since 1972, and has over 20 years experience as a workshop and art instructor in the United States and Italy.
A graduate of Providence College, he also studied portrait and landscape painting with internationally renowned painters and instructors. Sam is a member of the Connecticut Plein Air Painters Society, the Connecticut Society of Portrait Artists, and an Elected Artist at the Kent Art Association, a member of the Washington Art Association, The New Britain Museum of American Art, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. His art has been in regional as well as national landscape and figure shows.
Dorothy Peebles-Pelley is currently the Gallery and Festival Director for Oxford Cultural Arts Commission. She is a graduate of the Paier College of Art in Hamden and studied at the School of Visual Art in NYC.
Dorothy has had a busy career as a Fine Artist, Graphic Designer, Book Designer, Advertising Agency Creative Director and Commercial Illustrator of many books and in magazines. Exhibiting in shows and galleries she is a winner of numerous show awards. She was a Famous Artist School Instructor, created and taught a college course on CREATIVITY for the University of Maryland summer program at St. Mary’s by the Sea Campus, and a Member of Paier College of Art President’s Advisory Council.
The ShowCase has ten prizes of over $1,200 to be will be awarded. Showcase Exhibit entry forms and entry forms for the Festival outdoor Crafters Sale and Exhibit for the same weekend are now available. The entry deadline for both exhibits is April 18th.
